RunAMuck 2018

After considerable thought, primarily led by Roisin Cully and Maria Smith, it was decided that we would gather as many interested people as possible to do the Runamuck Challenge together, in memory of Marie and John. Further to a ‘committee meeting’ around the dining table, chaired by Tony O’Sullivan, it was agreed to fund-raise in support of two causes, namely Clare’s Wish and Navan Hospital. Sponsorship cards were printed, groups got together and raised awareness and funds by selling cakes, knocking on doors, sending out emails, cornering colleagues in work and tapping into the community’s incredible generosity.

Preparations got underway, training began and special equipment was gathered.

On a cold day in March 2018, after the big snow, the team gathered, and the fun began.

With one last cheer the M&J Runamuckers, suitably clad in sponsored T-shirts, heading into the wilderness. And leading very clearly from the front were the boys.

We laughed, we cried, we wondered why we couldn’t feel our hands and feet…but most of all we laughed. As I described it to a colleague a few days later….we were miserable happy….and would do it all again! (Some gluttons for punishment did do it all again, completing the course for a second time! While two more headed off for a half-marathon the next day!!)

But the fun didn’t finish there! The event was rounded off nicely with an ‘Après-Muck’ gathering in Teach na Teamhrach, where we discovered the hidden musical talents of some of our Runamuckers.
